Gypsy 83: The Director’s Cut

Directed by Todd Stephens

Todd Stephens’ debut film, Gypsy 83 is an uproariously funny and surprising road trip movie. It follows Gypsy Vale (Sara Rue), a 25-year-old who works in a photo shop and dreams of being a rock star, and her goth protege Clive Webb (Kett Turton) as they haphazardly flee their hometown in Ohio to join the Night of 1,000 Stevies, a Stevie Nicks lookalike competition in New York City. Along the way the duo meet an Amish man escaping his community, a group of frat boys being hazed, and a starlight who never had her moment to shine, finding connection and stoking chaos on a journey that leads them to understand what it means to pursue your dreams. The newly restored Director’s Cut, which premiered in 2025, features 40 minutes of previously unseen footage from this delightfully queer 2001 cult classic.
