No one is having as bad of a day as our friend AP, who has a pesky curse on her and is hell-bent on lifting it. She only needs $1,000 and a sacrificial lamb for a ritual that will cleanse her (If you could contribute anything to help a girl out, that would be fab!) But obtaining these things proves to be harder than it seems. Fucktoys follows sex worker AP going gig-to-gig, chasing liberation in a place built on broken promises—the picturesque ruin called Trashtown. A world that closely resembles a local carnival: Trashtown is a neon-cotton candy colored land of chaos with all types roaming around. As AP navigates Trashtown, she asks herself if breaking a curse is possible in a place like this. Annapurna Sriram’s film is as if John Waters made Cleo from 5 to 7 with a dash of Bollywood surrealism and the queer desire of Greg Arakki’s films mixed in. It’s a bold, euphoric, and stylized debut. You don’t want to miss this adventure!
