Late Shift

Directed by Petra Biondina Volpe

Floria is a nurse who infuses humanity into her patient care as she navigates the relentless pace of a surgical ward with dedication. Taking place over the course of one understaffed shift, Late Shift starts with Floria changing into her scrubs and quickly descends into a gripping race against time. The audience gets to know each patient in Floria’s care—from the entitled businessman to the patient desperate for a cigarette to the terminally ill mother—as Floria tries her very hardest to do right by each of them. Centered around an intense and nuanced performance by Leonie Benesch (The Teacher’s Lounge), Late Shift is an empathetic film about the importance of carework and human connection.
