Against the Tide

Directed by Sarvnik Kaur

The Koli fishermen of Bombay have been harvesting the sea for generations. While rooted in this legacy, Rakesh and Ganesh, fishermen and friends as close as brothers, have each chosen different paths: Rakesh continues with traditional fishing methods while Ganesh uses technology (including controversial LED lights) as they both struggle to support their young families. Resentments rise as the two men face challenges brought about by the global economy and climate change. With both intimate family moments and sweeping deep sea excursions, AGAINST THE TIDE poignantly makes personal the impact of a changing world on traditional lifeways.
