Weaving through a tapestry of home videos, sweeping Vermont landscape shots, TikToks, Iranian news clips, and family interviews, JOONAM tracks Iranian-American filmmaker Sierra Urich’s search for family connection across generations and geography. Intimate scenes between Urich, her mother, and her grandmother at their family home in Bristol, Vermont excavate themes of identity and shared memory. As Sierra chases after the country her mother left behind, she invites viewers on a humorous and poignant journey toward understanding the cross-cultural self.
